Artificial Intelligence or AI has hit the mainstream in a big way and it will only get bigger in the future. This can bring great promise or great suffering depending on who is using the technology. Genius entrepreneur (my opinion) Elon Musk has warned of unfettered use of AI.
ChatGPT from OpenAI and Bard from Google are helping students write term papers and complete coding assignments. This is good for lazy students, but bad for the teachers who are looking for original content and solutions.
I’m not predicting the end of humankind as in the Terminator movies. This is where an AI takes over all military computer systems and determines humans are the cause of evil in the world and must be destroyed.
I am concerned, however, that there are currently no standards associated with artificial intelligence. There are no “do no harm” limits on the technology.
It is already being reported that bad actors are using AI to hack passwords more efficiently. It is likely that thieves will find new ways to make our lives difficult using AI.
Like any tool, for instance a hammer, AI can be used for great good or great harm. We should approach this new technology with caution.
